WHAT
Community members are invited to tour two home additions that were built by Blue Hills Regional Construction Technology Program students throughout the school year.

During the open houses, homeowners will be joined by Blue Hills administrators, Construction Technology teachers and students who will discuss the project while they provide tours.

Work on the homes began in September 2023 by Blue Hills Construction Program juniors and seniors after homeowner applications were reviewed by school administration. Projects are chosen based on which provides the best learning experience for students.

Once selected, homeowners pull the permits, have plans drawn up and work with Blue Hills teachers to obtain vendors that suit their needs.

For Blue Hills students, this project provides an environment that mimics what a job site will look like in their professional futures.

The project included but was not limited to, the following components of the Construction Technology Curriculum: Technical skills in reading blueprints and technical plans, building layout, framing, and finishing carpentry. Employability skills such as critical thinking, professional communication, problem-solving, professionalism, teamwork and collaboration.

"These open house events give future customers the opportunity to come by, see the great work we do, and then put in an application for future consideration," said Vocational Director Michelle Sylvia. "These events also serve as a great way for our students to show their loved ones what they've been working on all year."
