Blue Hills District School Committee Welcomes New Member Marybeth Joyce
CANTON — Superintendent-Director Jill Rossetti and the District School Committee are pleased to welcome new member Marybeth Joyce.
Joyce, a lifelong resident of Milton, worked for the school district for more than 34 years. She recently retired from her post as Director of Admissions and Financial Aid.
“I’m a strong supporter of vocational education,” Joyce said. “My father was a vocational education teacher in the district. He also later joined the Blue Hills Regional Technical School Committee.”
Joyce is the first administrator in Blue Hills’ history to be elected to the District School Committee.
“With my vast experience in vocational education and at the school, I think I’m going to bring a lot to the table,” Joyce said. “As far as public service goes, my pledge is basically to the students and families within the town of Milton and throughout the Blue Hills Regional School District. I do pledge my allegiance to them in support of vocational education.”
Joyce’s mission will be to foster and improve the lives of students and families.
Serving the Blue Hills Regional Technical School runs in Joyce’s family.
“It’s kind of in my genes,” Joyce said. “My father was a construction technology educator at Blue Hills. When he retired, he also joined the School Committee.”
Her father, Festus Joyce, passed away in 2018 at the age of 81. He was a sitting School Committee member at the time of his death.
His daughter, Marybeth Joyce, stepped up to run for an open seat on the District School Committee and won her place in November’s general election.
“My priority will be to build a better and brighter future,” Joyce said. “I’m trying to fill my father’s big shoes. The whole reason why I went into vocational education was because of him.”
Joyce welcomes feedback from her new constituents. Parents, students, faculty, and taxpayers are all invited to email the District School Committee’s newest member at mjoyce@bluehills.org.
“On behalf of the district, I would like to welcome Marybeth Joyce to our District School Committee as our newly elected official representing the Town of Milton,” Superintendent-Director Jill Rossetti said. “While this is a new role for Marybeth, she is certainly no stranger to our district. She brings a wealth of knowledge and insight from her three-plus decades working at Blue Hills Regional Technical School, and we look forward to working with her on this new endeavor.”
