AP Language & Composition

Welcome to AP Language and Composition! Over the summer, you will be asked to hone your critical reading and writing skills through a self-selected reading assignment. First, you will select two books from the list below. The list is separated into categories. Please select books from two different categories (For example, do not select two memoirs). I suggest looking up the publisher's "blurbs" for titles that interest you in order to determine whether you would like to read the book. Click the link below to see the list of books.

As you are reading each of your two book selections, please complete the graphic organizer found in the link below. You may respond in paragraph or bullet-point form when appropriate. There is no length requirement. I am looking for you to fully but succintly respond to all aspects of each section.

When you return to school in the fall, you will use this graphic organizer as a reference for future assignments.

AP US Government & Politics

Instructor: Ms. O'Malley
Email: jomalley@bluehills.org

Dear AP Government Student,

I am excited to welcome you to AP U.S. Government & Politics during this momentous time in our nation's history. It should be a fascinating summer and fall as the midterm election unfolds in the shadow of the ongoing pandemic and other world events. As AP Government students, you will be informed witnesses to history, so begin now. Watch/read the news from different sources. Consider the role of government generally. What is it doing? What is it required/allowed to do? What should it be doing?

Please see the summer work assignment. It is intended to give you a basic understanding of the origins and workings of government, as well as a glimpse of how politics impact the operation of government.

I will set up a Google Classroom as soon as student scheduling is complete, so please keep an eye out for an invitation in the next few weeks.

I will be checking my email regularly. Please feel free to contact me at jomalley@bluehills.org with any questions or concerns. Have a wonderful summer! I look forward to terrific year next year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. O'Malley
